Death on the Rail
Jesse Strevell, eldest son of Mr. & Mrs. Ira Strevell of this place, a brakeman on the Way Freight, was instantly killed by being run over by a car at Central Bridge, Tuesday, at about noon. It appears he had walked from his train to a siding on which train 34 was backing in some cars, but unobserved by him, and it would seem that he was not aware of his danger until struck by the car when he was seen to make strenuous efforts to extricate himself from his position, but without avail, and the poor fellow was ground beneath the merciless wheels which nearly severed the head from the trunk. The remains were brought here the same evening and were subsequently removed to the home of his parents from where the funeral occurred on Thursday morning. Interment at Fairview Cemetery.
