Vernon Ray Dean Applegate was born on December 18, 1938, in Peggs, OK, to Vernon & Stella (Nichols) Applegate. He departed this life on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at his home, at the age of 79 years, & 22 days.
Growing up, Ray Dean attended school in Peggs, where he was also a lifetime resident. He graduated Tahlequah High School in 1959. He retired as a layout man having worked for Bob Warren Construction, Marfab, & Patterson Steel.
Ray Dean loved to go hunting & fishing. He also enjoyed farming. He also had a passion for taking his 1938 Chevy to car shows. Ray Dean enjoyed listening to country music. He treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren & great grandchildren. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Ray Dean is survived by: 2 sons: Melvin Applegate & wife Glenna of Hulbert, OK, & Kevin Applegate & wife Lynda of Hulbert, OK; 6 grandchildren: Tamara Summers & husband Justin of Locust Grove, OK, Brooke Barrett & husband Shawn of Bristow, OK, Matthew Applegate of Peggs, OK, Heath Smith, Kylee Jo Smith, & Lacy Smith, all of Locust Grove, OK; 14 great grandchildren: Kileigh, Ryan, Blaze, Cooper, Meagan, Madison, Josh, Kaitlyn, Brianna, Chase, Tristan, Rayleigh, Riggin, & Rosin; 1 sister: Eula Perry of Peggs, OK; 1 brother-in-law: Bob Warren & wife Diane of Catoosa; Several nieces, nephews, other relatives, & a host of friends.
Ray Dean was preceded in death by: his parents & 3 sisters: Gladys Burkhart, Georgia Warren, & Iva Forrest.
Funeral services were held 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Peggs Community Church in Peggs, OK. Reverend Rex Hendrickson officiated. Interment followed at the New Home Cemetery in Peggs. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
