Civil War Veteran Dies at Quincy
Daniel B. Harmon, for many years a resident of Sterling and a veteran of the Civil war, died this morning at Quincy. His son, Alderman J.E. (?) Harmon left this afternoon for Quincy to bring the body to this city.

Daniel B. Harmon was born in Lancaster county, Pa, on April 5, 1827. He was for many years a respected citizen of this city and was well known to almost every person in Sterling. He came to Sterling about August 15, 1849. After living here for a few years left for the gold fields of California in 1851, taking about six months to make the trip cross country. He returned to Sterling in 1859 and when the Civil War broke out he enlisted in Co. I, Twelfth Illinois Cavalry and served until the close of the war. At the close of the war he again came to Sterling and married Miss Anna O'Kane of Lee county on December 30, 1869. To this union twelve children were born, of whom eight with the widow survive. They are John E., Daniel B., and Mrs. Belle Schick of Sterling, Fred of Davenport, IA., Miss Effie Hague of Bettendorf, IA, Mrs. Jessie Scott of Emmittsburg, IA, Frank ad Paul of East St. Louis.

Mr. Harmon was a member of Will Robinson Post G.A.R.

The funeral of Daniel Harmon will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Baptist church, Rev. O.R. Thomas officiating. Interment will be at Riverside, where the members of Will Robinson post, Grand Army of the Republic will officiate. The body will be brought here this evening from Quincy and taken to the residence of Daniel Harmon of Fourth Ave.
