Laura Effie Ice, 89, daughter of William Hanes and Rose Annie Smart, was born February 26, 1886 in Texas County and died August 21, 1975 in the Texas County Memorial Hospital, Houston, MO.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Ice, January 10, 1904 and to this union five daughters were born.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are her daughters, Mildred Harmon of Joplin, MO; Elsie Bandy of Mountain Grove, MO; Martha McKinney of Houston, MO; Norma White of Menomonee Falls, WI; Lucille Berlin of Crete, IL; also three sisters, Mattie Pults of Springdale, AR; Edith Hahn of Anderson, IN; Lou Copeland of Childress, TX; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She grew up in the Big Creek community and spent the remainder of her years in Texas County, living in Houston at the time of her death.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Houston, remaining active as long as her health permitted.
Funeral services were Aug. 23, in the Ozark Baptist Church, the Rev. Kendall Ford officiating. Burial was in Ozark Cemetery under direction of Evans-Elliott Funeral Home.
