Gary L. Davenport of Hendersonville, TN passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at his residence. Gary was born May 9, 1943 in Baton Rouge, LA, son of the late Luther and Burbie (Rawls) Davenport. Gary was a compassionate and loyal man with a great sense of humor. He loved watching the news and was an avid collector of many different interesting items. He also enjoyed rock collecting and combing the beaches looking for his next big find. In his spare time, Gary also enjoyed tuning in to the nightly news as he tinkered with electronics and other projects; he could fix anything! Gary also loved hamburgers and Cajun food. After graduating high school, Gary proudly served in the United States Navy. Surviving are his sister, Charlotte (Gene) Baken; nieces, Beth (Todd) Grayson, Lynn (Steven) Thomas and Angie Williams; nephew, Mike (Jamie) Ligon; numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 29, 2019 from 5-7pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home (353 E. Main St; Hendersonville, TN 37075) where a celebration of life will follow at 7pm. Graveside services with military honors will take place on Saturday, September 1, 2018, 11am at Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, LA. Local burial arrangements in Louisiana have been entrusted to Charlet Funeral Home.
