David Daniel Buckridge, Jr., 79, of Hiawatha, died unexpectedly Thursday morning, June 20, 2019, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

He was born at Sharpe in Coffey County, KS, August 15, 1939, one of four children born to David Sr. and Alice Faye Woods Buckridge. Dave grew up in Coffey County where he attended school. He was placed in foster care at the age of 11 and remained there until age 21. Dave spent his working life at Country Mart in Holton, Lindy's Thriftway in Hiawatha for 6 years, washed dishes at the Golden Eagle Casino near Horton, Pizza Hut and Gus' Restaurant in Hiawatha until retiring.

He and Betty Parrish-Satterfield married December 9, 1999, in Holton. They have lived in Holton and Hiawatha all of their married life. It was not uncommon this time of the year to find Dave sitting out on their porch in Hiawatha, waving at the cars passing by, whether he knew you or not! Betty survives.

Also surviving are his children: Sally McDonald, Sharon Jenkins of Topeka, Connie, Sherry, Krystal, Bradley and Ronald, step son Claude "Shorty" Garrett of Tennessee, sister Nadine; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Shirley Foster, step-sons Jim Garrett and Bobby Garrett, a brother Alva, and a sister Lela.

Cremation is planned with a celebration of David's life, at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at the Eternal Hope Family Life Center in Hiawatha.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be sent to Chapel Oaks Funeral Home to help with cremation costs.
