Charlotte Perry McConnell May 14, 1951 ~ May 23, 2011 Charlotte McConnell passed away unexpectedly at her home, Monday, May 23, 2011. She was born in Forsyth County to Roger W. and Ruth Yokely, and grew up in Kernersville, before spending her adult life in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by a brother, Gerald Yokely and wife, Pat, of Tobaccoville. After attending East Forsyth High School, she completed her education at the NC School of the Arts. Charlotte also served in the U.S. Army in communications while assigned to West Point for two years. She was retired from Winston-Salem Dental Care. Charlotte was a life long patron of the arts, and admired and loved all things of culture and beauty. Her long time interest in civil war history led her to join the Stuart-Mosby Society, headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. Early in her adult life, she developed an interest in architecture, which led to her designing and building three different homes, in which she lived, at various times throughout her life. As a teenager, Charlotte was an accomplished horseback rider, and enjoyed many hours of training and showing her horses in jumping classes statewide. Her love of animals, both large and small, was evident to all who were fortunate enough to have known her. A Graveside Service will be held at Main St. United Methodist Church in Kernersville on Thursday, June 2, at 1 p.m. Dr. Peter Graves, Centenary United Methodist Church, will conduct the service. Memorials can be made to Main St. United Methodist Church, Kernersville, NC.
