MINDEN, LA - Funeral services for Hannah Elise McFarland, 19, will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Richard Methvin. Interment will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel, Minden.

Hannah was born in Minden, LA and passed away suddenly on June 25, 2007 in Ruston, LA. She was a 2006 graduate of Minden High School and a former MHS Darling. She was the reigning Miss Minden, and was an active volunteer with St. Jude and Habitat for Humanity. She was also a member of Eastside Missionary Baptist Church in Minden.

She is survived by her parents, Cliff and Kim McFarland; sister, Hailey McFarland; brother, Dane McFarland, all of Minden; grandparents, Jerry and Evelyn McFarland of Minden, and Allan and Ann Hoffman of Trinity, TX; great grandmother, Ruth Blackburn of State Road, NC; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be John Wesley Reed, John Major DePingre, Wesley Branch, Cameron Owen, Patton Guilley and J.W. Haynes.

Honorary pallbearers will be Reed Butcher, Zach Ellis and Daniel Payne.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale St., Mailstop 505, Memphis, TN 38105. Rose-Neath Funeral Home

Hannah died when a car she was riding in hit a train. McFarland was a passenger in a car driven by her friend, Rachel Cockrell, 28, of Bossier City, LA that struck the side of a Kansas City Southern train around 6:30 a.m. Monday on Maple Street in Ruston.

Ruston police said McFarland was ejected from the car and she was transported to North Louisiana Medical Center where she later died.

Police said Cockrell was driving McFarland to her job at Mom's Diner the morning of the accident. Cockrell told police that she did not see any warning signals or hear any train horn.

The engineer of the train, Torrish Pearson, told police that he could see the crossing lights were activated and that he sounded the train horn as required. Pearson immediately began stopping the train after the collision.

McFarland is a 2006 graduate of Minden High School and a former MHS Darling. She is the reigning Miss Minden and participated in the Miss Louisiana Pageant earlier this month in Monroe.

She attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe last year and later transferred to Bossier Parish Community College. She was planning on attending Louisiana Tech University in the fall.
