Elma was the second of nine children born to Arthur Harris & Lydia Pinkert. The family moved to Yakima WA in 1905. After her education she married Elmer Ellwood Fairbanks on 6/12/1916. The couple raised their three sons, LeRoy, Curtis and Douglas, and their three daughters, Isabell, LaVerne and Barbara in Yakima WA. They were members of First Presbyterian Church where Elma had been a Sunday school teacher & later Sunday school supervisor. Elma was known to be "a wonderful christian lady, and really lived her faith."
