He was a 25-year resident of Mullens before moving to Myrtle Beach in 1971, a retired yard master for Norfolk and Western Railway in Mullens and a graduate of the University of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Frances White Backus.
Survivors: daughter, Anna Dare Holliday of Myrtle Beach; sons, Bobby and Paul “Benny” Backus, both of Wilmington, Del.; sister, Lenora Robertson of Mullens; two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. George W. Seaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
