He graduated from the Lawrenceville School in 1996 and from the Air Force Academy in 2000. In addition to his love of family and flying, Jordan was an avid outdoorsman, having earned Outstanding Combat Survival Training Awards in 1998 and 1999 and Physical Fitness Awards while at the Air Force Academy, where he was a member of the Boxing Team. He served as a mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters in New Jersey and in Colorado. He enjoyed many sports, including snow and water skiing, sky and scuba diving, golf, tennis and hiking. He developed an enduring enthusiasm for sailing on the Toms River through his years on the sailing team of the Toms River Yacht Club. Capt. Bettio will always be remembered by his family and friends for his loyalty, compassion and commitment to the standards and ideals of the U.S. Air Force.
He was the beloved son of Jack A. Bettio, Joan Crowley Esq., Maj. Gen. (ret.) Edward M. Crowley, and Barbara Prokasky. He is also survived by his step-siblings, Jacqueline Bettio, Dr. Cheryl Moore, John E. Crowley, New Jersey State Police Detective Edward F. Crowley; grandparents, Harold and Mary Foskett; godparents, James Bettio and Marilyn Tedeschi; and many devoted cousins, nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will be invited to visit the family from 4 and 7 p.m. Wednesday at the following optional locations: Jack Bettio and Barbara Prokasky will receive guests at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River, (732) 255-6363, and Joan and Edward Crowley will receive guests at their home at 21 Magnolia Lane, Toms River, (732) 349-1922. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Hooper Avenue, Toms River. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
