Fire and a possible explosion aboard a containership under construction at Ingalls Shipbuilding Division of Litton Industries Tuesday night claimed the lives of two Mobile County residents and injured at least 10 other persons. Jackson County, Miss. Coroner Benny Bryant identified the two dead as W.A. Miller, a cable puller, of Grand Bay and J.G. Hurt, a sheet metal worker, of Saraland.

Authorities said a preliminary report showed an oil pump broke in the engine room of the Austral Ensign, an 866 foot cargo ship being outfitted at Ingalls for Farrell Lines of New York City.

James, a native and life long resident of Mobile, Alabama, residing in Saraland, passed away in Mississippi, October 3, 1972. He had attended Alabama College in Montevallo, where he was a member of the Sigma Club fraternity. He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Marie Hurt of Saraland; uncles, aunts, and other relatives. Funeral services were from the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home, Thursday, October 5th, 1972. Interment was in The Midway Cemetery of Thomasville, Alabama.
