George Harold Atwood, 54, New Albany, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, in Danville, Ky.

He was born in New Albany on Oct. 25, 1952, the son of Jesse Harold and Nettie Delores Kent Atwood. He was a retired superintendent for the Harrison County Highway Dept., where he worked from 1978 to 1995.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Ralph Atwood.

He is survived by his wife, the former Phyllis Kidwell of New Albany; a son, Travis H. Atwood of Palmyra; a daughter, Jacquelyn R. Pike of Floyds Knobs; his mother, Delores Atwood of Elizabeth; three brothers, Devon Atwood of New Albany, Roger Atwood of Louisville and Tony Atwood of Melville, N.J.; three sisters, Eloise Cox, Debbie Abbott and Tina Hitner, all of Elizabeth; and two granddaughters.

Visitation: Tuesday, June 26, from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday, June 28, after 10 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.

Funeral: Thursday, June 28, at 2 p.m., with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth.

Officiant: The Rev. Earl Ray Naugle.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana in his memory and in honor of his granddaughter, Savannah.
