Zelna Ann Caruth Anderson, the oldest of four children, was born to Clarence and Lovie Wright on December 13, 1933 in Chicago Illinois. On April 24, 2009, after 75 years of living, she went home to be with the Lord. Zelna will always be remembered lovingly as the Matriarch of her family. By the time she was 16 years old, Zelna Ann Wright had two daughters, Pamela and Regina by Melvin Jones. In 1951 she married Joseph Caruth and had seven children: Joseph, Zelna, Richard, Barbara, Clarence, David and Debora. She later married Charles Anderson and Hildred Jackson, Jr. Zelna went on to earn her high school diploma in 1964. In 1971 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and survived. She later returned to school and earned a Nursing degree. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Penrose Hospital for nearly 10 years. After living with intense pain for many years she was finally diagnosed with Lupus in 1981. She kept her Nursing License active until the final days of her life. Among her most cherished associations, she was proud to have been a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She rose to the high position of Grand Worthy Matron. Throughout her life she lived by the principles based on the Bible and instilled those virtues in her nine children, all of whom went on to distinguish themselves in education, business or law. Her favorite pastimes included watching C-SPAN, working with her hands, reading, making pottery, gardening, cooking and sewing. However, her greatest joy was being a mother. She not only provided a home for her nine children and all of the family pets, she also took in her sister Marlene and her family and her brother Clarence Jr. and his family in their times of need. Zelna is survived by her nine children: Pamela Berry, Regina (Gary) Jackson, Joseph (Rose) Caruth, Jr., Zelna Joseph, Richard (Sheila) Caruth, Barbara Caruth, Clarence Caruth, David (Boni) Caruth, and Debora Caruth; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, her brother Clarence Wright Jr., and dozens of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lovie Wright, her sisters Lovie and Marlene, and her husbands, Melvin Jones, Joseph Caruth, Sr. and Charles Anderson. Zelna Ann Caruth Anderson lived life on her own terms and will be greatly missed. Because she shared her life with so many, the world is a better place. Her life left an undeniable footprint in the sand.
