James Allen Beene, age 83, passed away July 17, 2019 at his home in Bethel Springs, TN. He was born June 22, 1936 in Chester County, the son of the late Walter Gordon and Mary Elizabeth Yearwood Beene. He attended school in Chester County. He entered the U.S. Army in 1958 and served till 1960 at Fort Sheridan, IL where he was stationed. After leaving the Army in 1960, he married Wanda Murley of Deanburg. He went to work for the Tennessee Department of Transportation in 1962 and retired in 1994. At TDOT, he worked for more than thirty-one years in the engineering department building roads in West TN, later becoming the bridge inspector for all twenty one counties of West TN. He was a member of the Finger Church of Christ. Gardening was his favorite hobby. Mr. Beene is survived by his wife, Wanda Imogene Murley Beene of Bethel Springs; two sons, Ken Allen Beene of Bethel Springs and Marty Beene (Shiloh) of Humboldt; three grandchildren, Elizabeth King, Austin Beene and Ryan Beene; and a sister, Mary Sue Burgund of Henderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brian Keith Beene in 1965; four brothers, Howard Beene, B.W. Beene, Curtis Beene and Jere Beene; five sisters, Marjorie Stanfill, Onie Houska, Marie Kennedy, Georgia Rameriz and Vela Davis.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 20 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Tom Childers officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday.
