Charles H. Brown, 94, of Kingwood, WV, died on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Charles was born August 6, 1924, in Kingwood, a son of the late Charles Slidell and Fae Lenore (Painter) Brown.

He was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in Airgroup 12, VB12, Divebomber Squadron, and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. After being shot down, he was a POW for over six months in Japan. Upon his return to the States he obtained his law degree from West Virginia University and practiced law with the Firm of Everhart, Brown and Snyder in Kingwood for 50 years until his retirement. Charles was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the Rotary Club of Kingwood. where he was named a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow along with all of his family members, the WV Chapter of Ex-Prisoners of War, and the former George G. Jackson, Post #56 American Legion.

He is survived by two daughters and spouse, Nan Brown of Morgantown, Jana (Brown) and Harold Harsh of Oakland, MD; two grandchildren, Charles Patrick Brown and Courtney Dawn Brown; brother and spouse, H. Ben and Nancy Brown of Martinsburg; special close friends, Kerry O’Hehir of Melborne, Australia, and Maggie DeWeirdt of Rowlesburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Betty (Gallaher) Brown, July 24, 2018; his son, Lewis Charles Brown; one brother, Donald Painter Brown, MD, one sister, Mary Lou Stevenson.

Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Lobb Kingwood Chapel, 295 South Price on Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 4-8pm. Cremation services are under the direction of Rotruck-Lobb Crematory. Interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family requests that any memorial donations be made in Charles’s memory to, ACLU, 125 Broad Street, New York, NY 10004, or Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. Post Office Box 695, LaPlata, MD 20646, or Preston County Humane Society, P.O. Box 395, Kingwood, WV 26537.
