Dorothy Lynn Barnes, age 79 of Sewanee, passed away on Thursday July 18, 2019 at her residence. Mrs. Barnes was born on October 22, 1939 to the late George Barnes Sr. and Lynda Garner Barnes in Sherwood, Tennessee. She was employed for many years at Genesco, then later worked at and retired from The University of The South as a custodian. She was a member of the Sherwood Emmanuel Apostolic Church. During her free time she loved to spend time gardening, shopping), playing Mahjong tiles, watching Wheel of Fortune, and being with her friends. She also enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center to socialize and play Bingo and also worked in the Consignment shop there. She was a strong Christian lady that never said a bad word about anyone, or complained about anything. Mrs. Barnes will always be remembered for loving life and her family. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Carter Barnes; brothers George Houston Barnes Jr., and Harold Gene Barnes. She is survived by her children, Randy (Terrie) Barnes of Knoxville; Darlene (Jimmy) Henley of Winchester, Lisa (Lesley) Glasner of Estill Springs, Steve (Donna) Barnes of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Jason Barnes, Jaime Smith, Joshua Barnes, Jeremy Barnes, Jerry Henley, Kim Henley, Danielle Grabovich, Travis Glasner; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Gereline Garner, Patricia (David)Jackson, Kenneth (Marilyn) Barnes, Carter Barnes, Michael Barnes, Ronald Barnes, and Joyce Jackson, all of Sherwood. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Saturday July 20, 2019 at Moore–Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday July 21, 2019 in the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Pastor Franklin Hill and Bro. Bryan Barnes officiating.
