She attended Blackshear High School where she was an outstanding track athlete. In 1963 she moved to Colorado Springs, CO. She was employed at Snow White Laundry and Fort Carson Dining hall where she retired as a KP supervisor. She also worked at Angelus Chapel Funeral Directors as a Lady attendant for five years. She loved her job, baby.
Betty was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Missionary church for many years and then several years at Fresh Start Baptist Church. She served faithfully on the Usher Board for over 50 years and also on the Southern District Usher Board. She always greeted you with a beautiful smile and loved to call everyone “baby or honey”. She also was a faithful member of the Women Mission helping in the kitchen and treasurer.
After retirement she enjoyed her morning walk around Prospect Lake Park and watching television. Her favorite show was Chuck Norris in Texas Ranger. She “Miss Betty” enjoyed interacting with her children, Sunday outing’s with her granddaughter, Ki-Ki until she passed away.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ernest, Dennis, Billy Bridges; her sister Zelma Scruggs and her granddaughter, Ki-Ki.
She is survived by daughters, Beverly Pickrom and Felicia Hill, who she raised from a baby; grandson, Buddy (Rashad) Buford; great grandchildren, Shyqueria, Javarrea, La-La, Syncere, Ky’Zhaneyah, DaQuwan, DaSharaan and Rashsadiqe, Buford; great grandchild Montrevius; Sister, Ruth Priest; brothers, Felon (Arlene and Thomas Jr. (Eleanor) Bridges and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends.
