Robert Leo Breen, 77, beloved citizen of Bradford for many years passed away Tuesday morning at St. Francis hospital, Peoria. He had been in Ill Health for the past several months after an attack of leukemia.

Born May 24, 1878 in Lewistown, Ill. He was one of 13 children born to William and Rosa Mul?rone Breen. When he was five, the family moved to Lacon where he grew to young manhood.

At an early age he learned the printing trade in the old Lacon Democrat office. After several years there he worked as a printer for the Kewanee Star Courier.

On October 11, 1904, he was united in marriage with Miss Nora Hickey in St. Patrick's church, Camp Grove, the Rev Fr. Kennedy performing the ceremony. The couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary in October 1954.

To htis union were born six children Mrs. Joseph (Evelyn) Mowbray, Bradford: Mrs. John T. (Catherine) Real, Wyoming; Robert V. Breen, of Westport, Conn.; Mrs. Margaret B George, Peoria; Mr. Frnacis S. (Clare) Russelll, of Tiskilwa, Mrs. Robert J (Rosemary) Real, of Barberton, Ohio. Also surviving besides his wife and one sister, Mrs. Thomas O'Brien of Oak Park, Ill, are 21 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In march of 1907, Mr. Breen purchased an interest in The Bradford Republican and moved his family to Bradford where they have resided ever since.
He was always very active in school and education work, having served on both the grade and high school boards of education. He was president of the high school board of education for many years.
A charter member of the Knights of Columbus, he had been a member for over 50 years. At the time of death he was a Spalding chapter of Peoria. He had been a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 50 years.
He was a trustee of St. John's church, Bradford. during the nearly 40 years he served as editor of the Bradford Republican, he was active in the Illinois Press association. He had always been prominent in Republican politics.
In March of 1946 he sold The Bradford Republican and since that time has been assisting with publishing the paper besides serving on a number of committees, including several years' serving on the Stark county Board of Review, the Stark county Draft Board, Stark county Welfare Board, a director of the Bradford-Broadmoor Recreational association, and an active member of the Bradford Businessmen's association.
