Although the stone gives his year of death as 1906, his indexed death record states that he died 15 Dec 1905. He is buried near his wife Susan Moore Smith.

Amherst Rublee enlisted in the Civil War on August 30, 1862. He was mustered in Sept. 26, 1862 and discharged June 19, 1863, disabled. He served with the First Regiment Cavalry, Co. C., First VT Calvary Volunteers. He received a pension for his service.

Like his father, he served as postmaster in E. Berkshire for a long period. He was in business with his father, William S. Rublee, for many years. After the death of his father he ran the business on his own until his son, William Seymour Rublee, took it over.

"A. W. RUBLEE DEAD. Had Been Postmaster and Merchant at East Berkshire. East Berkshire, Dec. 15. A. W. Rublee, well known as a merchant, and for many years postmaster, died here suddenly about 9 o'clock this morning. Mr. Rublee retired from business about six years ago and had not been well since. For several months he had been suffering from dropsy and heart disease. Death came this morning while he was sitting beside the stove. He was a veteran of the Civil War, serving In the 1st Vt. Cav. Mr. Rublee was 65 years old. Ho is survived by a wife, two sons, W. S. Rublee, who succeeded his father in business here and is at present postmaster, and T. M. Rublee, a furniture dealer here; also two daughters Amelia and Fern, who have lived with their parents." ( St. Albans Weekly Messenger, Saint Albans, Vermont, 21 Dec 1905, Thu, page 6)
