Henrietta Hudson was the middle daughter of Richard Clayton Hudson and Mary B. Griffiths. She and her family were living in Morrisania, Westchester, New York and were neighbors with William and Anna Best and their three children. It is possible that Henrietta was babysitting for the William & Anna Best and was familiar with William enough that they had an affair.
From the description of William from family members now living, he had a reputation of being quite a lady's man. Nevertheless, Henrietta completely disappears from the 1960 census. We find that she has given birth to Alexander and she is now living with William.
The first wife, Anna and her children by William are living in Oregon. The only conclusion that can be made is that they had an affair while William was still married.

She and William went on to have six more children before they were finally married. (June 28, 1878 in Jersey City).
She was thirty-five when when she finally married William. Possiblity the reason that she didn't marry until after her children's births was that William's first wife would not grant a divorce. Since we can't find Anna after 1880, it is quite possible that she died or re-married and then granted the divorce. It is equally possible that Anna did not grant the divorce, and Wm. married her knowing that she was deathly ill.

At almost 57 years of age, Henrietta died...possibly from complications of childbirth. I believe that her last child, a male, died either at birth or shortly after.
My mother, who was raised by Henrietta and William's youngest daughter, Isabelle, told her that Henrietta died of breast cancer.
Her death certificate and place of burial has not been discovered. I was told by a city official that the records from 1879 - 1980 were destroyed in a fire.
