Hannah C. Hill, 18, of Akron, Ohio, has died. She was born in Akron, May 30, 1980, a
daughter of Elza and Kimberly Childers Hill of Akron. She was employed by Diebold
Corporation and a member of the Springfield Baptist Church. She was preceded in death
by her paternal grandfather, Elmer Hill. Besides her parents, she is survived by three
brothers, Justin E. Hill, Phillip E. Hill, and David E. Hill, all of Akron; her
paternal grandmother, Maudie Hill of Caney; her maternal grandparents, Louis and
Barbara Childers of Harrogate, Tenn.; and her great-grandmother, Frances Newport of
Winfield, Tenn. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 31, in the Lucas &
Hall Funeral Home Chapel, with Richard Gibson and others officiating. Burial will
follow in the Hill Cemetery, Left Fork of Little Fork, Caney. Arrangements are under
direction of Lucas & Hall Funeral Home of Pikeville.Hannah was the homecoming queen at her Akron OH high school. She was easygoing, bubbly, funny, fun to be around, romantic, trusting, and quite beautiful; and she loved everyone. Among others, Hannah was survived by her parents, brother, and many friends. Her death was a senseless waste of a beautiful life.

The murderer's first trial in 2000 ended in a mistrial for juror misconduct. He wasn't retried until 2012, when the prosecution had superb DNA evidence implicating him. He was convicted of murder and other offenses in the second trial, and was sentenced to life in prison with parole eligibility after 19 years. He was already serving a 25-year sentence he received in 2004 for another crime. He won't begin serving his sentence in Hannah's case until he has completed his sentence from the 2004 conviction. His request for a new trial was denied in June 2014. His first parole hearing is tentatively scheduled for November 2047, when he will be 68 years old.
