Mrs. Lucy Bartlett Pettee, widow of the late Dr. A.L. Pettee, died at the residence of Mrs. L.A. Wilder on Dec. 5th. Mrs. Pettee was born in Wilmington on July 21, 1811, and was thus 91 years of age last July. Her father, Capt. Perley Bartlett, was a prominent citizen of the town, living on the farm owned by the late John C. Newton, where a family of ten children were raised. In the death of Mrs. Pettee the last one passes away. She was married to Rolando Titus in 1833. Of the seven children born of this union, only one survives, Arnold A., of Brooklyn. After the death of her first husband, she was married to Dr. A.L. Pettee in 1847. Their only child, Lyman F. is a successful business man in New York. Mrs. Pettee was a woman of resolute purpose and marked individuality. She was a most devoted wife and mother and no sacrifice was too great for her to undergo for her friends and family. She possessed wonderful physical energy and up to almost the last days of her life took long walks without apparent fatigue. Her death cannot be attributed to any particular disease, but she died from old age. She was a kind neighbor and very many persons can testify as to her excellence as a nurse in sickness. She had an active mind and was well informed upon general matters. She lived to a good old age and her memory will be treasured by many. The funeral was held on Sunday, Rev. Mr. Riegel attending. Burial was in the village cemetery.
