Oakville resident, Jane Hand, 79, passed away peacefully July 19, 2019, at Providence St. Peter Hospital, surrounded by many of the family members that she loved. Jane was born at Offutt Lake in Thurston County and grew up in Tenino, living in the Quarry House. She loved to reminisce about learning to swim in the quarry and many other special times with her parents, Myrhl and Becky.

Her greatest joys were spending time with family, get-togethers with friends and family, picking wild blackberries and wild huckleberries, canning her special pickled beets and creating her crocheted fabric rugs. She especially loved Christmas celebrations at the family home where she would make sure that each family member had a special present as well as a basket containing her homemade peanut butter cookies, delicious carrot cake, canned pickled beets and a bag of dehydrated pears that her and Dave worked so hard on. She would bake her much desired wild blackberry pies which some family members would have as a first course, just to make sure that they didn’t miss out.

She is survived by her one and only love, David Hand of Oakville; children, Jim (Susan), Lorraine (Rob), Sam (Angela), Jennifer and Rebecca (Nik); grandchildren, Elizabeth (Scott), Katherine (Aaron), Andrew (Carly), Sarah (Justin), Chelisa, Brenden and Emma; great-grandchildren, Jack, Ellidi and Noah; sisters, June, Joanne and Carol (Wayne); her little brother, John (Susan); as well as Hannah, the family dog.

A graveside service will be held at Oakville Pioneer Cemetery at 11 a.m., July 27, 2019, with Jeff Holman officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Grays Harbor Fire Department #1 Equipment Fund or another charity of your choice.
