Daniel served in the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was in Company I 16th Regiment Alabama Infantry. He was captured and was sent to Rock Island Illinois. He remained there as a prisoner until the end of the war. He is one of four sons of Balis and Nancy Donaldson that served for the Confederacy.
