Born to Kazimerz and Josefa ( Bartikowska ) Gliniak. Educated in Easthampton Schools, he was second of 3 sons. He joined the CCC during the depression with his older brother Matthew, then entered the Army in 1939 for what should have been a 3 year hitch. Because of PEARL HARBOR, he was extended to 3 more years as were many thousands of other Americans. Henry was injured during the bombing of PEARL HARBOR, receiving leg wounds, which required metal rods in his leg and well as back wounds. Upon discharge he met his future wife PEARL DOUCETTE when hospitalized at the Springfield ( MA ) Hospital for war related back injury. After a 3 year courtship, they were married on April 15, 1950 at St. Patricks Church in Chicopee Falls, MA. Henry was a mechanic, truck driver, welder, carpenter and mason. As he said a "Jack of all trades, Master of none". He and his wife Pearl raised 5 children at the home they built in Easthampton at 109 Strong Street. Susan M, 3/22/1951. Henry C, 3/9/1953. He was stricken by a cerebral hemmorage on December 16, 1969 at home. He died at the Cooley-Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, MA on December 18, 1969.
