Funeral services for Ramona Jo Brashears, 90, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Butler officiating.

Ramona Jo (Cox) Brashears was born May 5, 1929 in Alex, Oklahoma to Joseph Edward Cox and Margaret Docia (Julian) Cox. She passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Ramona grew up in Alex and graduated from Alex High School in 1947. While in high school, she enjoyed playing basketball and she was voted the 1947 All Around High School Girls Basketball Player for Grady County.

On May 18, 1947, she married the love of her life, Roland B. Brashears, in Alex, Oklahoma and they were married for 66 years until his death in 2013.

She was a stay at home mom for many years. She attended many livestock shows and sporting events in support of her sons. Ramona also drove a wheat truck during harvest working with the family custom cutting crew. She and Roland owned and operated the Koffee Kup Café in Alex and she had also worked at Sentry Manufacturing.

Ramona was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha. Since she was 22 years old, she taught children and adult Sunday school classes. She was also a member of the Alex chapter of Eastern Star. She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers and would can the produce from her garden to feed her family.

She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Roland, two brothers, Everett Cox and John Dee Cox and one sister, Lorene Blacksher.

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Kendall and Paula Brashears of Chickasha, Michael and Gwen Brashears of Duncan and Bart and Connie Brashears of Stillwater; grandchildren, Shelli Brashears, Melissa and Marshall McCombs, Melissa Gardner, Jeremy and Laura Brashears, Shane and Amanda Brashears, Katresa and Randyl Gean, Kendra and Avery Griffin, Angela and Jon Studnek, Amanda and Kyle Jones, and Father Chris Brashears; twenty-three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Belford and Kay Brashears; and other extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Chickasha, 324 W. Colorado Ave., Chickasha, OK 73018.

The family will receive friends at Ferguson Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 7th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Interment will be in the Alex Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
