Jerry Alton Cooper, 76 of Nimitz, WV passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long illness on Wednesday August 7, 2019.
Born April 5, 1943 in Hinton, he was the son of the late Archie Edward and Gussie Shrader Cooper. He was the youngest of eight children.
Jerry was a lifelong plumber and electrician serving the Summers County and surrounding areas for over 60 years. He was loved by all who knew and met him and would help anyone who needed help. A very special and one of a kind man who will be missed by many. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hinton. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his time with family. His favorite pastime during retirement was spending time at Angell’s Grocery and gossiping with the men.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Purdy; three brothers, Whitt, Raymond and Charles “Buster” Cooper and three sisters, Phyllis Berry, Geraldine Kirby and Imogene Ewing Lester.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 55 years, Janie Farley Cooper. One son, Jeff Cooper of Jumping Branch; one daughter, Jennifer E. Cooper of Jumping Branch. Son-in-law, Marvin Purdy (Papaws buddy) of Pipestem. One sister, Margie Mock of Hinton; one grandson, Josh Purdy of Pipestem, along with numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday August 12, 2019 at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Butch Honaker and Gary Trout officiating. Burial will follow in Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until services time Monday at the funeral home.
