Jimmy was my younger cousin. His was born in San Diego. His father David Cowie was in the Navy and stationed there. His mother was Marilyn "Joyce" Howes, my mother's older sister. He was their first born and he has a younger sister Laura. They bought a home in Redondo Beach, CA and he grew up there. His Dad had a boat and they would go out on the ocean and fish.
I remember when he won a bicycle at a local eatery called Ricks Drive In in Gardena (where he lived). It was funny that he told us that he knew he was going to win the bike.. and he did!
One time on a camping trip he sat too close to the campfire and singed his eyelashes.
I don't remember Jimmy owning a car but he did have a motorcycle. One year for Christmas I bought him a full body jumpsuit that he could wear while riding his motorcycle.
Jimmy had a kind heart - for at least a year before his death he sponsored a couple of kids in 3rd world countries with a small monthly donation for food, clothes and schooling - even though he was living on a tight budget himself.
Jimmy worked as a plumber. He was a shy and sweet kid. He loved the 4th of July and all the fireworks. I remember his laugh - we called it the Howes family laugh as we seemed to all have it - it was kind of a chuckle.
I am adding this memorial on his 60th birthday.
