Arleen was the daughter of William R. Dollase and his wife, Martha Tripke. She was the third of eight children. She met her husband, the Reverand Victor Tiefel, while he was a student at the Lutheran Seminary in Watertown, Wis. They married in 1938, and they would eventually live in Denver, Colorado. Arleen assisted her husband in his church teaching Sunday School and playing the organ. She and Rev. Tiefel had 4 children. She was very proud of her home and maintained a lovely garden.
