Ransom N. Hawkins, b. 23 Apr 1838, enlisted in the CSA, Cleveland County, NC, at the age of 23, on August 22, 1861. He served in the 28th Regiment, Company H, known as the "Cleveland Regulators". Mustered in as a Private and was promoted to Corporal on November 15, 1862 . Promoted to Sergeant on December 20, 1862. Hospitalized at Danville, Virginia, on or about April 4, 1865, with a gunshot wound of the left hand. Discharged at Charlotte, NC, on May 3, 1865 .
