From "What I know of the Travers Family" by M.M.Reid, Fernandina 1882:
"Dr. Thomas Travers Came to St. Augustine with his Regiment, surgeon in British Army, Then the providence of FL. passed to British Government. When the province was again passed to the Spanish, the British troops were removed, but Dr. Thomas Travers remained in the practice of his profession, and was for many years, the leading physician of that city. Chief Surgeon at the Royal Hospital, celebrated for his skill and eminent virtues."
Dr. Thomas Travers was well trained and spoke 4 languages.
A listing of books from his library reflected a well educated, inquiring mind.
Praised, at times for his astute skill; he, nonetheless, died destitute, as did most physicians.
Like his son, he is buried at Tolomato Cemetery, but his grave is not marked and we do not know its exact location.
