Paul lived his entire life in Tulsa County, in the areas of Bixby, Leonard and Liberty Mounds. Growing up he worked share cropping with his family and continued that occupation as an adult.
In 1946 he joined the Oklahoma Nation Guard, C Battery, 160th Field Artillery where was distinguished as a sharpshooter.
Paul had known Alice Lorene Mobley since childhood. They began courting in the late 1940's and decided to marry. On February 5, 1949 during a snow storm, Paul drove a tractor to pick up Lorene. They drove to the highway where he had a car waiting. They drove to Bixby and were married in the First Baptist Church Parsonage. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Joanne in 1951 and Brenda in 1961.
With a young family Paul decided to leave farming. He worked at Orbit Valve , North American Aviation and then settled at American Airlines where he worked 21 years until his retirement in 1988. He loved working on the big jets and could identify any low flying aircraft from the ground.
In 1957 Paul was saved in a tent revival and felt the call to preach. He preached his first sermon at Bixby Free Will Baptist Church. His first pastorate was Alsuma Free Will Baptist Church of Tulsa. He also pastored Duck Creek Free Will Baptist Church in Liberty Mounds and Shahan Free Will Baptist Church in rural Coweta.
Paul continued his love of the land by raising a big garden every year as well as raising acres of corn with father and brother, Gene.
Paul also had a great interest in restoring antique tractor. He enjoyed tractor and steam engine shows and used those opportunities to bond with his sons-in-law and grandsons. Grandsons Matthew (1978) and Michael (1988) provided him with a new role as "Papa". A role he thoroughly enjoyed.
Paul and Lorene enjoyed their time together and traveled the continental United States Extensively.
Paul and Lorene lived and loved their ministry pouring themselves into it. They touched many lives. Paul taught Sunday School, preached sermons and sang with the "Glory River Singers" a group of friends that sang at churches and nursing homes. Paul lived his faith and believed his workplace was his "mission field". Countless lives were changed and won to Christ through his living witness in the workplace.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; son-in-law, (Rex Cox); one brother (Gene Martin) and one sister (Willia Dean Hayes). He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Cox of Bixby; daughter Brenda Dickey and husband Steven of Glenpool; three grandson, Matthew Cox of Bixby; Michael Cox and wife, Chelsea of Bixby, Andrew Dickey and wife, Paige of Tulsa; sister Pauline Watkins of Broken Arrow.
