Stanley was married to Nell Myers Stanley formerly of Forest, daughter of Sheriff and Mrs. Otis Myers.
Stanley was a native of Alabama and spent his early childhood in Enterprise and Meridian. He had made his home in Jackson for the past 25 years where he was Secretary and Treasurer of McCarty-Culver, Inc. An active member of Alta Woods Baptist Church, he had served several terms as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, also served as director of the Hinds County Brotherhood Association. He was a member of the National Food Brokers Association, and was a past president of the Jackson Food Brothers Association. He was a former member of the Oak Forest Exchange Club, and was a member of the James A. Myers Masonic Lodge. During World War II he served with the U.S. Coast Guard.
Other survivors include one son, Billy Stanley, and a daughter, Sherrie Stanley, all of Jackson; his mother, Tillie Stanley of Philadelphia; three sisters, Mrs. Lonnie Barham of Philadelphia, Mrs. Bruce Hamilton of Memphis, Tenn., and Mrs. John Bailey of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, H.R. Stanley of Birmingham and Douglas Stanley of Sringfield, Missouri and a number of nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers were: Tom Bratcher, Dr. John Murphy, Herman Fredman, Harry Simmons, John Culver, Gaines Stegall, Eddie Adkins, Dewayne Carpenter, Elton Powell and Ray Benton.
Honorary pallbearers were: Employees of McCarty-Culver, Joh McCarty, Deacons of Alta Woods Baptist Church, Mississippi Food Brokers, Mississippi Wholesale Grocers and Tom Foster.
