PIONEER CITIZEN PASSED AWAY

Mrs. Susan Cooke, well known woman of this community, passed away at the home of her son, Edward H. Cooke of Lansing, Michigan, on Saturday morning, after an illness of several months duration.
Susan A. Lynds was the daughter of Dr. David Lynds and Lorraine Beebe Lynds. She was born in Momence on July 10, 1847 and died October 2, 1926 at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 21 days. She received her education in the Momence and Kankakee schools. She was united in marriage to Edward S. Cooke on September 8, 1869. Three children were born, Hattie Lorraine, who died several years ago in California, Lynds Sherman of Los Angeles and Edward H. of Lansing, Michigan. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. John Freeman, and eight grandchildren and many other relatives.
She was a woman well liked by all who knew her. She was a good mother and a dutiful wife.
The remains were brought to the home of her grandson, Atherton Cooke on Sunday. The body laid in state at the Episcopal Church until Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. The services conducted by Rev. Williams Baker and internment took place in the Momence Cemetery.
