Camille S Ross, age 95, passed away peacefully on June 27,2019 in Issaquah, WA. The oldest of three children, Camille Sylvia Elaine Aasland was born on November 4, 1923 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Ruby and Ralph Aasland.
Camille was raised in the Lutheran Church. She was secure in her faith, but never judged others who had different beliefs. She lived her faith by her actions, not just her words. At one time, she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School. Camille loved music and had a beautiful soprano voice. In her youth, she sang in her high school choir and enjoyed ice skating. After graduating from high school in 1941, Camille took a train across the country to live in Southern California with her aunt and uncle. While preparing to move from Minnesota to California, the first thing she packed were her ice skates, a story she often loved to tell with a laugh. While in California, she attended college and worked at GoodYear. During that time, she also met her future husband, Anthony “Tony” Ross, a Marine serving in WW2. They married in 1945 and settled in the Seattle area where they raised three daughters: Stephanie, Christina and Sally.
Camille worked at Foss Nursing Home as an aide in Physical Therapy for twenty years, retiring at age 70. She enjoyed working with the elderly and was loved by residents and co-workers. She made many friends while working at Foss, maintaining those close friendships throughout the years, until her passing. Known for her wonderful Christmas cookies, she baked several hundred every year and passed out a tin of cookies to family and friends until she was well into her 80’s.
Camille adored her family and friends. She loved to tell stories of her life experiences, especially from her young adult years. She had many cousins to whom she was very close and often shared stories, reminiscing of their time spent together, full of laughter and good food. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage. She often quipped “I’m a tough Norwegian!" or “I’m a stubborn Norwegian!” Devoted to her family, Camille was a loving, giving person with a contagious laugh and a delightful sense of humor.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Anthony “Tony” J. Ross, daughter Stephanie M. Jones, brother Donald Aasland, sister-in-law Mavis Aasland, as well as several cousins.
Survived by her two daughters, Christine Ross-Cowderoy (Michael), Sally Creekmore, son-in-law Rick Jones, brother LeRoy Aasland (Lucille), several nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Camille was loved by everyone. We miss you already.
