Melba was a wonderful cook, having helped her mother cook for Threshing crews. Her chickens and Large garden provided much food for the family. Her amazing sewing skills provided many clothes for her daughters, including their wedding dresses. She enjoyed crocheting, Quiling, and doing crafts. Melba was very involved in the United Methodist church, both in women's activities, as well as teaching Sunday School and Vacation Biblr School well into the 70's. She held many offices over the years in her church, PTA, Homemakers Club, as well as serving as a 4-H leader.
In 2015, Melbamoved into the Sheridan Memorial Home in McClusky to receive the kind of loving care that she was so generous in giving to others. Melba's gentle spirit and careging was especially evident as she cared for her husband, Melvin, during his 8-month struggle with cancer. In Aug of 2019, she moved to the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center (Bismarck).Melba's greatest Joy in later years was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-children. Melba was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 3 brothers Harold, Arthur and Alvin, and 3 sisters Edna Uhlich, Bertha Himrich, Helen Hoornert. Surviving are her son Jerald McClusky), daughters Deborah (Darrel) Aleson (Bismarck), Bonita (Duane) Decker (Dickenson), grandchildren Wendy (David) Irwin (Bismarck), Joshua (Laura) Aleson (Bismarck), Trisha (Shawn) Noble (Oklahoma), great-grandchilden Joseph Decker, Cassandra Decker, Ben Knudsen, Benjamin Irwin, Freja Aleson.
