SPENCERVILLE — Helen Virginia Williams Ackerman, 88, died at 9:18 a.m. March 6, 2016, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home in Spencerville.
She was born Nov. 3, 1927, in Van Wert to Ira Ray and Zelma Elzora Hammond Williams, who preceded her in death. On Easter Sunday, March 25, 1951, in Convoy she married John Lewis Ackerman.
Mrs. Ackerman was a graduate of Van Wert High School, Class of 1946. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was an auxiliary member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Spencerville. She was a seamstress at the Van Wert company that produced the original FFA jackets and at MaryAnn's in Spencerville making baby clothes. She enjoyed crocheting, and she loved dogs, but, most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren, who all graduated from college. She was very proud of their accomplishments.Survivors include three daughters, Virginia (David) Jones, Penny (Jamie) Washam, and Nancy (Jeff) Lee; nine grandchildren, Lisa Washam, Angie (Roger) Overy, Jessica Washam, Isaiah Jones, Jordon (Angel) Lee, Jon (Ellen) Jones, Craig Jones, Paul Lee, and Nathan (Holly) Lee; 10 great-grandchildren, Vanessa Overy, Chance Overy, Joshua (Neomi) Jones, Kristi (Drake) Dull, Ericca Lehman, Riley Jones, Madison Overy, Kenzie Overy, Hogan Lee, and Henry Lee; six great-great-grandchildren, Samantha Jones, Charlotte Jones, Colby Dull, Gabe Jones, Anessah Jones, and Dante Jones; a sister-in-law, Alma Williams; and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by seven siblings, Raymond (Alma) Williams, Betty (John) Snyder, Paul (Margaret) Williams, Clarabelle (Homer) Snyder, Charles (Dorothy) Williams, Margery Williams, and Clarence Williams; mother- and father-in-law, Harold and Ruth Armstrong Ackerman; and a sister- and brother-in-law, Grace Anna Ackerman and Dean Heller.
In keeping with Helen's wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Burial will be at a later date.
