Santa Monica, California, Santa Monica Outlook, Tuesday, 29 September 1936: "Heart Attack Believed Cause Of Death In Cafe. "Venice- Apparently the victim of heart attack, Charles[sic] S Schick, 53, dropped dead yesterday afternoon in a cafe at 201 Ocean Front, according to reports on file at Venice police headquarters today. "Fred Kialber of Burbank, who reported the matter to Detective Benjamin J Miles, said that the man came into the cafe and ordered a bottle of soda water, saying that something he had eaten had upset his stomach and caused terrific pains about his heart. "Taking the bottle of soda water, he went outside and sat on an Ocean Front bench. A half hour later, he walked back into the cafe, proceeded half way across the floor, and then fell dead. Lifeguards were summoned and they worked vainly for almost an hour in an effort to revive the man. Upon arrival of Dr C D Dixon, the victim was pronounced dead. "The body was removed to the Ocean Park chapel of Kirkelle, Bernard and Peek where a post mortem examination was to be made some time today."
