Obituary from Legacy.com

It is with great sadness that the family of Peter John Melendez announce his sudden passing on Monday, December 10th, at the age of 47, with beloved family members at his side. He is preceded in death by his father, Manuel M. Melendez (1992), and brother, Glenn Melendez (1971). He issurvived by his mother, Jennie Charles, sister Diana (David Madril), and brothers Charles “Charlie” Melendez (Jennifer), and Dennis Melendez. He is Uncle Peter to Denise Madril (Jason Lehman), Deneil (David Bradford), Savannah, Sienna and Preston Melendez. He was a very proud Grand-Uncle of Caleb, Dylan, and Madison Bradford (Kailua, HI) and Ariyah, Jayda and Kane Lehman (Gilroy,CA). Peter is also survived by many loving Uncles, Aunts and cousins both locally and in Phoenix, AZ.

Peter was born September 28,1971 in Gilroy, CA the last of 5 children. Peter graduated from Gilroy High School in 1990 and attended Gavilan College in Gilroy, CA. Peter worked as a Security Guard for Securitas for over 20 years - a job he very much enjoyed.

He is known best for his sense of humor and ability to imitate family members voices and mannerisms. Always eager to meet new people he was well known by many in his neighborhood. For several years in a row he coordinated a greatly successful July 4th block party where all neighbors participated to a huge success. Peter loved to sing and would be known to belt out his favorite Mexican song Volveré Volveré by Vicente Fernandez at weddings and parties -delighting many. The one thing Peter always looked forward to every July was the GilroyGarlic Festival - joined by family members from out of state they enjoyed the 3 day event.

He was a big San Francisco Giants and a Faithful 49’er fan. Peter loved the beach - especially San Francisco and Santa Cruz Boardwalk where he would frequently visit with friends and family.

Peter’s humorous spirit and love of life will be missed by many.

Vigil will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2018 – 7:00 PM at Habing Family Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 – 10:00 AM at St. Mary Church, Gilroy. Reception to follow.
