Larry "Iron Man" Brown was an outstanding Negro League catcher from 1919 to 1949. He played for the Chicago American Giants, the Indianapolis ABCs, Kansas City Monarchs, Memphis Red Sox, Detroit and Philadelphia Stars, New York Lincoln Giants and New York Black Yankees. He later served as the manager of the Birmingham Black Barons. Brown was said to have thrown out Ty Cobb on five consecutive attempts to steal second base in Cuba during the winter of 1926. He was considered for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.Negro League baseball player 1921-1947. Catcher for the Memphis Red Sox, Pittsburgh Keystones, Detroit Stars, Indianapolis ABCs and the Chicago American Giants.
