James Marsden Lindsey-Alexander was born on June 19, 1889 in Ashcroft, British Columbia to James Marsden Lindsey-Alexander and Mary Gertrude Theresa (Vessey) Lindsey-Alexander.

James enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force on March 12, 1918. He married Edna McRae on March 18, 1918 in Vancouver, British Columbia a few days later. The couple had two children: Mary Janet Lindsay-Alexander Kimball and James Marsden Lindsay-Alexander.

Before and after World War I, he worked as a marine engineer. James died on November 10, 1972 in West Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 83.
