William A. "Bill" Wheat, 96, of Anderson, passed away April 1, 2011, at his daughter's residence, after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 30, 1914, in Portland, Ind., the son of Charles and Anna May Wheat. He lived in Anderson since 1947 and had resided in Muncie for the past 11 years. He graduated from Portland High School. Bill worked for Warner Gear for 13 years; then retired from General Motors Guide Division after 27 years. He was a member of the Anderson Elks and enjoyed farming, hunting and was an avid fisherman. Survivors include three children, Nancy (husband, Carl) McFadden of Arizona, William Michael (wife Phyllis Kay) Wheat of Pendleton and Kimberly Wheat (companion, Bill Shroyer) of Muncie; grandchildren, Adam Wheat, Devin Wheat, David Kort and Tammy Woodall; great-grandchildren, Chris, April, Nicholas and Christopher; great-great-grandchildren, Hannah, Keeleigh, Katy, Chloe, Xavier and Alexis; a niece, Charlene Spal; and a nephew, Ed Townsend. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Kay Wisner; grandson, Christopher Michael Wisner; and sisters, Vera Townsend, Mildred Addington and Katherine Ramp. The family extends special thanks to William O. Shroyer and Karen Crabtree. Services will held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
