He married Ida Belle Cates 28 June 1890, in Jasper County, Missouri.
Known children of the couple were: Dora Mae [Beadles] age 7 in 1900 census; Mary Letha [Brown Marsh] age 4; Walter A age 2; Joseph J age 7 months; and Earl born in 1901. The couple may also have had another daughter, Marie Myrtle, born sometime in 1900.
The date of his death came from the History of Stone Cemetery, edition 2006. Several entries in that book indicate that he was the husband of Susan, but no evidence of that marriage could be found.
After Charner's death, his widow Ida second married George Washington Grady.
