Lieutenant General Sir Henry Clinton (the younger), G.C.B., G.C.H., K.T.S., was a distinguished British Army officer who served with notable distinction during the Napoleonic Wars. Hailing from a prominent military family, Clinton's military career was both extensive and illustrious. His father, General Sir Henry Clinton, served as the British Commander-in-Chief in North America during the American Revolutionary War, and his grandfather was Admiral of the Fleet George Clinton.

Clinton's early military career began with a stint at sea, which unfortunately was marred by severe seasickness, leading him to transition to the army. He received his officer's commission in 1787 and quickly rose through the ranks. His service included participation in the Flanders campaign as an aide-de-camp to Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, starting in 1793. He was captured by the French in 1796 but continued to serve with distinction upon his release.

In 1808, Clinton embarked on a parliamentary career, becoming a member of parliament for Boroughbridge, a position he held for a decade. His military exploits continued during this period, particularly during the Peninsular War, where he commanded an infantry division under the Marquess of Wellington, later known as the Duke of Wellington. His leadership was instrumental in several key battles, including the Battle of Salamanca, where his division played a pivotal role.

Clinton's contributions to the British military were recognised with numerous honours, including being made a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath (GCB). His strategic acumen and bravery were evident throughout his career, from his early days at sea to his command roles in the army. His death on the 11th December 1829, marked the end of a significant chapter in British military history, but his legacy lived on through the continued service of his family and the soldiers he led.

He appears to have been baptised twice. The first baptism took place on the 5th April 1771 at St James' Church, Weybridge, Surrey and the second took place on the 9th May 1771 at St James' Church, Piccadilly (St James, Westminster), London. (Please see attached).
