Bessie Belle (Butler) Adds Williams --

She was the biological daughter of Charles F. and Mary H. (Bryant) Butler, who passed away early in her life and she was adopted/raised by:

William J. Adds - Memorial #78442020
Ida M. (Frey) Adds - Memorial #78442029
(Both buried First Baptist Church of Carriere Cemetery
Carriere, Pearl River County, Mississippi, USA )

Her last name was "Adds" when she married Charles Gordon Williams.

According to her obituary and other information, she was the daughter of Charles F. and Mary H. (Bryant) Butler, but the name "Adds" was given as part of her maiden name in her obituary.

Information from her descendants is as follows:

"Her birth name was Butler, born in OK territory in 1900, her parents died soon after she was born at which time she and her siblings were adopted by different families. Belle was adopted by the Adds family from Gallatin which is where she was raised and eventually met her husband, Gordon Williams."

Another relative, Jeff Elliott - Find-A-Grave Member #49279460 - stated the following to me in an email dated 17 May 2022: "Belle was the biological daughter of Charles Franklin "Frank" Butler and his wife Mary Helen (Briant) Butler. The Butlers migrated from Simpson Co KY to the Choctaw nation in Indian Territory in 1899, where Belle was born. Mary Helen contracted TB while there and they returned to Simpson Co KY, where Mary Helen died in 1901. Her husband Frank later also contracted TB and died in 1904. Ben S Briant (Mary Helen's father) arranged for Belle to be adopted by the Adds family; Belle's older 4 siblings (one of whom was my paternal grandmother) were taken in by Mary Helen's siblings."

Her obituary follows:

Belle Butler Adds Williams, age 93, a homemaker and resident of 32 Memorial Drive, Winchester, died May 17 at Health Inn Nursing Home. A native of the Indian Territory of Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Ellen Bryant Butler. Mrs. Williams was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Maxwell Baptist Church for 45 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Gordon Williams, and a son, Joe Gordon Williams. She is survived by a son, Wayne B. Williams of Winchester, and two granddaughters, Kelly and Lori Williams of Knoxville. Funeral services were Thursday, May 19 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with interment in Maxwell Cemetery.
