Clifford David Stauffer, 97, of San Diego, California entered the gates of Heaven on August 28, 2019 surrounded by his lovely wife of 74 years, Elfrieda, and his son, Gary Stauffer and his daughter, Kathy Quistad.

Clifford grew up in San Diego, the 3rd child of Ovidia and Elgie Stauffer. He was quite the character from the beginning and earned the nickname “Tar-baby” from his siblings for chewing bits of tar like chewing gum!

When he attended LIFE Bible College in Los Angeles to become a pastor, he met his bride Elfrieda Weatherford, while he was leading worship in his brother-in-law Clyde Compton’s church. He then became a pastor, and together with his bride, pastored Foursquare churches all over California until 1958. He was a friend to Dr. Robert Schuller and Rev. Chuck Smith back in the days when they began their ministries.

Cliff and Elfrieda moved back to San Diego and Cliff worked selling cars at Walt Tufford, Guarantee Chevrolet, and Courtesy Chevrolet, winning many awards for his sales abilities. His nickname was always “ The Preacher”. He moved on to selling motorhomes. Clifford and Elfrieda loved to travel and made many trips cross-country in their motorhome. They also loved visiting relatives in Germany, and taking cruises!

But Cliffs greatest joys were his family and telling people about his Lord and Savior. He often longed to return to the ministry, but in a way had his own ministry to those who would never step foot inside a church.

In 2010, Cliff and Elfrieda sold their home in San Diego and moved in with their daughter, Kathy Quistad, in Escondido and attended The Church at Rancho Bernardo. In the past few years as his health became more challenging, he even spoke to each of his therapists about the Lord, not wanting to miss one opportunity to share the Gospel.
