Richard “Dick” Ernest Prewett, 76, of Arkansas City, KS, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 at his home.

Cremation has been affected according to his wishes. A memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 6th, 2019 at Shelley Family Funeral Home of Arkansas City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Cowley County Humane Society in his name. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Dick was born on June 16, 1943 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Ernest Salisbury and Alice Elaine (Yunker) Prewett. He graduated from high school in Beloit, Kansas. He married Linda Sue Giddings in May of 1960 in Beloit, KS. To this union, two children were born, Pamela and Rance. The couple later divorced. In March of 1976, he married Betty Louise (Derr) Palmer. The couple made their home in Arkansas City, where he worked many years at Rodeo Meats Packing House. After the packing house closed, he owned and operated, B & R Painting in Arkansas City. Most recently he owned, Prewett’s Small Engine Repair. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Pam Rutter(Barry) of Carbondale, KS, Rance Prewett(Jill) of Blue Springs, MO, Merry Tipton(Jeff) of Arkansas City, Sherry Stahl of Andover, KS, Terry Young(Jeff) of Springhill, KS and Perry Palmer of Denver, CO; his sister, Mary Miller of Daytona Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Brea Sissom(Sam), Tori Lee(Jesse), Kaleb Prewett, Kyler Holloway, Hayden Holloway, Kyle Tipton, Lacey Tipton, Ashton Stahl, Darcey Stahl and Katlyn Stahl, Drew Young, Brenton Young, Danae Young and Alexandra Palmer and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 3 siblings, LV Prewett and Johnny Prewett and infant sister, Ardith.
