Colin David Doig of Sistersville, West Virginia, passed away on September 5, 2019 at Wheeling Hospital. He was born on June 9, 1925 in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Joseph Doig and Mae Melissa Challis Doig.
At the young age of 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy, and served in WWII. While in the Navy, his task group 22.3, was a part of capturing the German U-Boat 505 on June 4, 1944, which is now housed in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois. He was a boilermaker by trade and worked for 38 years for GATX with his work taking him all over the United States and abroad. He was a founding member of VFW Post 6327 and a member of American Legion Post 67. Since retirement he has participated in Post events and has been an active Blue Blazer for many years, with his duty of carrying the American Flag his most treasured part. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always willing to sing (and dance) to any song. He loved caring for his yard and was always willing to sit a spell to hear what was going on. He was known by many titles; Daddy, Dad, Uncle Colin, Uncle Deep, Grandpa and Poppy, but no matter what you called him, you always ended a visit with a hug goodbye.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Doig; seven children, Candice Siewert, Robina Doig, David Doig (Lori), Joseph Doig, Ann Munoz (Neil), Thomas Doig (Debra), and May Miller (Timothy); fourteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Erickson, Ruth Gatrell, Robina Springer, Joseph Doig III, Donald Doig, Ethel Mae Boyles, Janet Barrick, Wanda Mullins and Walter “Bill” Gilleland.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the Myers Funeral Home with Reverend Lisa Fox officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites, will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery
