Great-Grandmother
Descendant of Revolutionary Patriot Vincent Roberts of North Carolina

She was the daughter of Calvin Roberts and Jane Simpson Roberts.
On February 28, 1880 as Mary Roberts, she married Perry Simpson at Jackson County, Alabama.
They were the parents of 11 children.

Although many family members insist her surname is spelled with a d instead of a t her name appears as Roberts on the 1870 census, her marriage certificate, her death certificate and in her obituary. Prior to 1900 all Roberts ancestors spelled their name as Roberts on all census and legal documents. The spelling of Roberds began to be used when her mother and her brother, John Alexander, moved from Alabama to Texas in the early 1900s.

Born at the end of the Civil War, she grew up in Jackson County, Alabama which was devastated by the War. She married her first cousin, Perry Simpson. She was the mother of 13 children.
